                            Part 1: Music from Irland...

This page is with some Music from Ireland. They are not my favourite ones, but if you try to run a Webpage about Ireland, you cant leave the Irish out !!!!

The first video are the "Dubliners". They are not that active anymore, but they are well known in Germany

Dubliners again....

The next video is by a singer called “Christy More”. Very popular in Ireland but totally unknown in Germany. He is performing all over Ireland and his concerts and CD´s are very popular. I never attended a concert and I don’t have a CD of him. I choosed a song with a special subject: The Magdalene Laundry.

This song was written by Joni Mitchell about the Magdalene Asylums which were homes for "fallen" women, most of them operated by different orders of the Roman Catholic Church. It has been estimated that 30,000 women were admitted during the 150-year history of these institutions, often against their will. The last Magdalene Asylum in Ireland closed on September 25, 1996. One such Irish institution was the subject of the feature film The Magdalene Sisters

OK. This Video is not made by me and I dont like it too much. But the Music is by a Band called Darby DeVon. I used their Music as a Background music on a Video here. I was asked by some German guests of this Webpage, where they could get the CD. You can buy it at Amazon in Germany but this is just to allow my German Guests to listen to some more music of Darby DeVon...

OK. Here we do have another very popular Band in Ireland: "The Frames". They just released a new DVD. The Frames are a Rockband from Dublin and the Leadsinger Glen Hansard might be known in Germany as an actor from the Movie " The Commitments". They were established in 1990 and their concerts are always very special and sold out

No Webpage with Irish Music would be complete without those guys. No need to explain, who they are....

This one is special. This Single is just released and as far as I know, there is no Video arround as of today ( October 2006 ). They teamed up with "Green Day". The title is: " The Saints are coming".

Damien Rice was originally in the band Juniper , a rock band which released the singles "The World Is Dead" and "Weatherman". On the eve of recording their first full album for Polygram in 1999 , Rice became disenchanted with the commercial label and quit. His Juniper bandmates became Bell X1 . He moved to rural Italy where he played acoustic guitar, wrote songs, and busked around Europe until he was able to form a band and get coffeeshop gigs in the Dublin area. Exploiting a lucky connection to David Arnold , his second cousin, Rice was able to record O , for which he won the Shortlist Music Prize in 2003 . The other members of the band are Lisa Hannigan who sings and occasionally plays guitar and bass; cellist Vyvienne Long ; percussionist Tom Osander (aka: Tomo) a member of the 90's jam band God Street Wine ; and bassist Shane Fitzsimons .
